Georgetown is one of the many cities in South East Asia which is famous for its mural art: there are a lot of wall paintings in the city centre. There are even maps of the murals, and you can also find them on your Google Maps, if you search for “street art” or “mural”.
If you want more about Penang, here is a detailed guide, and you can also read my Digital Nomad City Rating of Georgetown.
Some of the murals are nice or funny, and it is good fun to take photos in front of them – indeed, many of them are designed just for that, for example, the children on a swing, where there are actual swings you can sit on, the bicycle etc.
For some reason, cats appear in many of the paintings – so cat lovers will enjoy it…
For me, other cities like Ipoh in Malaysia or Solo in Indonesia were at least as interesting for mural art as Georgetown, but it certainly is entertaining here, too. Here are a few of the murals for you to look at.
